When I was ten years old, my family moved to the United States believing we had finally escaped hardship. We had left communism behind. We had left poverty behind and thought the hardest part was over.
Two years later, my mother was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.
She never truly went into remission, and fought the disease for 20 years.
Over those two decades, she was prescribed countless medications, chemotherapies, targeted treatments, and experimental therapies. Each one came with long names, complicated mechanisms, and pages of potential side effects.
My mother was a brilliant architect by training, but medicine was not her language. English was not even her first language. Learning English was challenging enough. Medical English felt impossible.
This was before the internet became what it is today. She didn’t trust what she found online, so we went to libraries and searched physical journals. We read text books and tried to piece together understanding from fragments.
She wanted to know:
What is this drug actually doing inside my body?
Why this one?
What will it help? What might it harm?
Is this really my best option?
All too often, there wasn’t time in the exam room for those answers.
I was in college at the time, studying graphic design. I loved art, but I loved my mother more, so I changed my path. I switched to biochemistry at Purdue, and later earned a Ph D in chemistry from Texas A&M.
Throughout those years, my mother would call me.
"Can you explain this medication to me? Can you look this up in a journal? Does it really do what the doctor says?"
I would read the papers, study the mechanisms, and decode the pharmacology. I would then translate it all back to her in easy to understand human language. I would say, "Think of it like this…" and I would build her a metaphor, a picture, a bridge, something she could hold onto.
Sometimes I translated between her and her doctors, not because they didn’t care, but because they didn’t have time. Medicine moves fast, and appointments are short. Fear makes everything harder to process.
Over time, I realized something that changed me: My mother’s struggle was not unique.
There are millions of people who leave medical appointments unsure. Who read medication leaflets that feel like legal documents. Who search online and feel more anxious than informed. Who want to understand, but don’t have a background in chemistry, pharmacology, or medicine.
Understanding should not require a Ph D., and yet, for my mother, it did.
MediBuddi exists so any person can find answers for themselves.
MediBuddi explains medications clearly, calmly, and without judgment. It translates complex mechanisms into everyday language. It uses metaphors not to trivialize medicine, but to make it accessible, memorable, and human.
It does not replace doctors.
It does not diagnose.
It does not prescribe.
It simply helps people understand what is happening inside their own bodies so that they can ask better questions, feel less afraid, and participate in their own care with confidence.
MediBuddi was inspired by a daughter trying to help her mother make sense of something overwhelming. It is built for every patient who has ever felt lost in a sea of medical language.
